Temecula is often thought to be an adult destination. However, there's plenty for children to enjoy, including the amazing museum where kids are challenged with activities and displays to make them think.
Pennypickle's Workshop is a museum where parents can book timed sessions for children to explore 7,500 square feet of cluttered hands-on inventions, gadgets & experiments...and kids don't even know they're learning as they play! Trained staff and educators direct children and keep them busy and constantly learning in a creative environment considered the fictional home of one Professor Phineas T. Pennypickle, Ph.D.
Among the professor's workshop experiments and projects are at least one penny and pickle in the unique library. You'll learn all about the professor through his madcap experiments that fill his "house".
The Professor, himself, is mysterious—you never actually see him. What you do see through imagination are rooms filled with his wacky inventions, most considered works in progress.
Winner of Nickelodeon Parents' Picks award, the museum is operated through city funding, grants, and "Friends" who run the gift shop filled with learning toys & gifts.
As you visit and take the tour, you'll see The Library where a Time Machine not in use at the moment. The fireplace is a secret passage into the mysterious black light Maze Room. The Bedroom where the professor once slept is filled with optical illusions and mystery things. Go under the picket fence and you will become a human kaleidoscope!
Turn on the Electrolight-o-later chandelier in the Dining Room using an antique pie safe; The Music Room transforms a grand piano into the Philharmonica-matic which plays many different instruments; Kitchen Chemistry and Physics includes a pizza twister covered with boxes, and in the Bathroom, you can see the inner workings of a toilet that you can flush.
While the activities and attractions described here may change, the madcap, hands-on exploration is guaranteed to boost your children's love of learning in a vibrant environment. Pennypickle's Workshop is the kind of place that kids (and adults) never grow tired of. It frees the inner-child in us all with colors, sounds, lights, and compelling activities not always bound by specific how-to rules or outcomes. Kudos to the designers and stewards of this successful gathering spot for kids.
