San Diego Parks and Recreation Centers

San Diego is California's 2nd largest city by population and it features many regional areas with parks that include skate parks, hiking trails, and state parks, as well. Most parks in the city are operated by the City of San Diego Park & Recreation division. With an operating budget of around $83.5 million in 2011, the park and rec department spans a variety open spaces, places and programs. The city operates three golf courses - Torrey Pines, Balboa Park and Mission Bay Golf Course and Practice Center. There are over 50 recreation facility buildings serving a diverse population and visitors to the city of one million population (approx.) and 30 million annual visitors. sandiego.gov

Presidio Park offers over 50 acres on a hill over looking Mission Bay, San Diego Bay, Mission Valley and the Pacific Ocean. The Serra Museum educates and excites visitors with the park history and San Diego's past. Presidio Park include unique horticulture features, flourishing with native and non-native species. All this can be observed exploring Presidio Parks more than 2 miles of trails, situated in the middle of urban San Diego. The Old Presidio Historical Trail is a self guided walk that begins on the corner of Juan St. and Mason St. and then crosses over Jackson St. to continue the walk from the corner of Mason St. and Jackson St. The trail has a moderate level of difficulty and is marked with signs that ask and answer historical questions about the park along the way.

Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve lies between Rancho Peñasquitos and Sorrento Hills to the north and Mira Mesa to the south. Stretching 7 miles from the I-5 and 805 merge to just east of I-15; it encompasses some 4,000 acres of both Peñasquitos and Lopez Canyons. The Preserve is jointly owned and administered by the City and County of San Diego.
