California State Parks Proposed Closure / Partial Closure List 2011

UPDATE: Many of these parks have been re-opened. Check with parks.ca.gov for current status.

There are 58 counties in California that contain over 270 state parks, state beaches, state recreation areas, state historic parks, places and museums. This list was released as a proposed partial closure-to full closure list to help California meet its budget. An initiative by a non-profit "friends" group of the state parks system proposes to allow sponsors and volunteers to participate in programs to help keep these list closures open for business wherever local support makes it possible. Pictured is Limekiln State Park, located on the Big Sur Coast in Monterey County.

California State Parks currently has relationships with more than 80 associations authorized pursuant to Public Resources Code 513. These non-profit charitable organizations enhance the educational and interpretive programs in California State Parks. Associations are related to, but independent of the state parks they serve.
