Bay Area Culinary Writer Shared Passion for Food

GraceAnn Walden

GraceAnn Walden, a journalist and food writer passed away on Monday June, 8, 2015 at her home in Vallejo, California. She died as a result of a heart attack due to multiple health issues. A native of Newark, New Jersey, GraceAnn was an only child, who moved to San Francisco in her 30's.

She became a trailblazer and innovator in the way food writing was approached by food columnists. She was funny and opinionated, intelligent and kindhearted, an animal lover, protector of the underdog and an enemy of social injustice.

GraceAnn worked in many areas of the food industry in the Bay Area including cooking and marketing. One of her major accomplishments was writing the Inside Scoop column for the San Francisco Chronicle for many years.

In her retirement days and till the end of her life at 70, she offered guided food tours of China Town, North Beach, Mission St and other areas, and wrote her monthly newsletter the "Yummy Report" to more than 15,000 readers.

She is survived by her beloved Bruno Mars (dog), Tinkerbell (dog), Gabby (cat), three little birds and the plethora of friends that still wait to hear what she had to say
