McBride Skate Park Opens
Eager skaters joined a celebration to open a new Skate Park at McBride Park, 1550 Martin Luther King Ave.
The event featured remarks by Sixth District City Councilmember Dee Andrews, and skating legend Tony Hawk, who dropped by to support the event. The new skate park includes grind rails, ledges, banks, stairs, walls and gaps.
Project funders include the Long Beach Redevelopment Agency (which was disbanded Feb. 1, 2012), City of Long Beach Open Space Bonds, and the State of California Proposition 40
Murray Hayden Grant Program, and the Tony Hawk Foundation. Remaining improvements to be opened in the near future include the new 5,275-square foot McBride Teen Center, with a multi-purpose room, kitchen, game room, lounge, study room and computer room, as well as McBride mini park, an additional 0.15 acres of park space along the 16th Street side of the park.
