Seal Beach, CA Surf With Caution

Seal Beach, California is no different from any other beach that provides an outlet to the sea for inland rivers and streams. The fact that Seal Beach's river mouth feeds from the San Gabriel River not far from the L.A. River, makes for a unique situation in which pollution is guaranteed after it rains.

San Gabriel River begins at the foot of the San Gabriel mountains near Azusa, where the creek is often dry. It flows roughly parallel to 605 Freeway through San Gabriel River Dam, home to a park where the annual Renaissance Festival has been held in recent years.

The inland cities along the San Gabriel River include Long Beach, Garden Grove, Cerritos, La Habra (where it runs parallel to Beach Blvd.,)
