It’s a BEACH PARTY! Get ready for the summer of sunshine, beaches, bikinis and music. This weekend, there’s a beach party called Carlsbad Beach Fest. Don’t expect to see The Beach Boys performing, but do expect ample doses of sand, maybe some contemporary bands, and lots of bikinis, blankets and beach balls!  If you need lessons in how to get your groove on, watch some classic 1960’s beach movies and you’ll see how California beaches gained their reputation.

  • BEACH PARTY  (1963) What happens when 10,000 kids meet on 5,000 beach blankets? An anthropology professor wants to know in the first of a series of five beach party movies.
  • GIRLS ON THE BEACH (1965)  Lots and lots of scenes of cute girls in skimpy bikinis! The Beatles are coming to a Southern California Alpha Beta sorority party, but they don’t show, so the girls imitate the Beatles. The Beach Boys and Leslie Gore perform in the 60s beach flick.
  • BEACH BLANKET BINGO (1965) The story involves a missing pop star and Eric Von Zipper’s gang. It includes lots of singing with The Hondels, Frankie Avalon, Linda Evans, Annette Funicello and Beach Boy Brian Wilson.
  • BEACH BALL (1965)  “Don’t bug me, baby. I’m in orbit.” Drag racing, beach bashing, boys and their bikini beauties involved in a beach brawl! Three aspiring rockers attempt to raise money to get their instruments out of hock. The Supremes bring it on home with the song, Come to the Beach Ball with Me.
  • MUSCLE BEACH PARTY (1964) Frankie (Avalon) and Annette (Funicello) are locals who find that their beach has been taken over by a businessman training a stable of body builders.
