This weekend Santa Maria the Elks Rodeo celebrates its 66th year with annual traditions such as Beard-a-Reno contest for cowboys and the big Saturday Elks Rodeo Parade on Broadway. Chicks & Chaps brings cowgirls together to rope, ride, and have a great country time, all while raising money for breast cancer fighters and survivors. The four day rodeo on the first weekend in June launches with a kids mini rodeo in which 7,000 to 10,000 flag-waving grade school students arrive by bus to watch dazzling performances (such as a cowboy riding his horse through a ring of fire.) On the dusty trail of life, if you miss the Santa Maria’s favorite annual event there are many more rodeos to see in upcoming months.
