In addition to Arvin Wildflower Festival this weekend, the Porterville Iris Festival (left photos) on April 25 and the Eureka Rhododendron Parade (right) also held on April 25 showcase the beauty of California and the importance of bringing back the flower industry to the state. Humboldt County’s cut flower growers alone generate more than $43.2 million in total annual economic impact for their county. The flower industry has traditionally been important to California but as the jobs and flower growing efforts headed south of the border the impact was especially noticeable at the annual Rose Parade in Pasadena. Several float builders attempted to purchase California flowers for floats, but couldn’t buy what they needed. A campaign from the California Cut Flowers Commission is underway to bring back California flowers to the Tournament of Roses parade and festival, one of the many flower festival parades held in the state.
