ANGELS CAMP, CALIF.– Starting on May 14 the bullfrogs will be warming up for the annual contest at the Jumping Frog Jubilee. The event is part of an old-fashioned Calaveras County Fair celebrating the history, culture and literary legacy which grew out of California’s mining camp towns such as Angels Camp. The county fair May 14-17, 2015 celebrates Mark Twain who created memorable characters such as Huck Finn and Becky Thatcher, and “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County” an 1865 short story which provides the theme for the annual county fair’s jumping frog contest. Pictured is downtown Angels Camp where a Jumping Frog walk of fame pays tribute to each year’s winner. Headliner act at the fair this year is Grammy winner Asleep at the Wheel band.
