PORTOLA, CALIF. — One of the few events in California in which a city participates in its very own railroad heritage, mark your calendars for Portola Railroad Days August 21- 23, 2015. Located in the Eastern Sierras at close to 5,000′ elevation, the city is home to one of the largest railroad museums in the Western US and also the crew change site on Union Pacific Railroad’s scenic Feather River Route over the Sierra Nevada mountains. Just five miles outside of town in the Sierra Valley, the largest valley in North America above 5,000′ in elevation, the headwaters of the middle fork of the Feather River spring forth. The festival makes use of the local natural assets with great contests and events:

  • Golden Spike Parade
  • Flycasting, Bass Fishing contests
  • Pedal Car Races
  • Car Cruise-In
  • Train Rides
  • Chainsaw Carving
  • Ice Cream Social (free ice cream on limited basis)
  • Bands, dancing, food, beverages
