Pictured is a famous painting re-created with average Californians donning costumes and stepping into volunteer roles.  This one-of-a-kind show can be seen at Pageant of the Masters in Laguna Beach each summer.

You can travel the globe to see the world’s great masterpieces but we actually have quite a few right here in California. From the famed Pinkie (Lawrence Thomas, 1794)  and Blue Boy (Thomas Gainsborough, 1770) at Huntington Library in San Marino, to Woman with a Hat (Henri Matisse, 1905) at San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, California has many, irreplaceable gems from around the globe. Other great works such as famous paintings by Monet (Wheatstacks, Still Life and Sunrise,) and Irises (Vincent Van Gogh, 1889) which sold for around $55 million, are on view at the free admission J. Paul Getty Museum in L.A.

While the price of great art may be out of reach, there are plenty of affordable artworks, crafts, glass works and sculptures sold by not-so-famous artists at festivals and markets this weekend.
