If Raul Anguiano (left photo) was still alive today he’d be 100, and he would continue to paint near his homes in Huntington Harbour, Calif. and Coyoacan, Mexico. His paintings and murals seen internationally in galleries, museums and public spaces are very much alive with vibrant colors, colorful figures and stories to tell. Two special exhibits at Anderson Art Gallery (Sunset Beach) and Museum of Latin American Art (Long Beach) feature spectacular works by the artist who passed away in 2006.

If you’d like to watch artists creating their masterpieces on-location, head for the annual Los Olivos Quick Draw held this year at historic Mattei’s Tavern. The art festival invites the public to participate through opportunities to purchase creations from 19 known artists who are given 60 minutes to complete original works. Afterward the paintings go on sale with minimum bids of $250.
