August is one of Californians’ favorite months to attend county fairs — and there are still a few to catch, even though the month is more than halfway through. According dated statistics (2015) from California Department of Food & Agriculture – Division of Fairs & Expositions, the economic impact of California state fairs is upwards of $3.9 billion. In addition to providing jobs and getting people to have fun experiencing animals & livestock, games, rides, concerts, contests, merchandise and foods, the government agency sees fairs as a money-maker.
Fairs generate business tax revenue through the collection of state and local sales taxes, transient occupancy taxes, possessory interest taxes and other taxes and fees. These revenues stimulate further economic activity by providing for programs that benefit the local community.
See there! By attending a fair you are helping benefit the local community!
