Beach Blast from the Past

Among the most popular events at the Seal Beach’s Beach BBQ Centennial Party yesterday was the bathing suit line up in which 33 participants modeled outfits that recreated styles of the past. On-lookers especially got a kick out of seeing Mayor Ellery Deaton strike a pose.  Seth Eaker and Michael Dobkins of the Seal Beach 100 Centennial Committee orchestrated a photo shoot for a memento panoramic picture similar to one taken at the beach 100 years ago.  Other fun activities at the beach party enjoyed just as much today as 100 years past: horseshoes, sand castle building, surfing, swimming and a Beach BBQ with free hot dogs.

When you ask Seal Beach residents why they don’t have more hotels, high-rise buildings and chain restaurants and stores along their picturesque Main Street and quaint downtown many frown and say they want to keep their city old-fashioned. And thanks to that, visitors can still park free in most spots.
