BERKELEY, CALIF. — 30 years ago when the Grateful Dead performed at UC Berkeley’s Greek Theatre to a full “house” few in the audience could have imagined (or even cared) where they would be in 2014. Mischa Ballard wasn’t there–but his parents (huge Grateful Dead fans,) introduced their son to the music they embraced. Mischa says that he grew up listening to the band, seeing them perform on occasion, and still loving them today. That’s one reason he put together the Berkeley Shakedown Street Festival, a musical tribute to Grateful Dead. The free event includes food, beer, wine, street entertainment and 100 vendors, plus a full day of free music. That’s something to be grateful for!
