The Rio Carnival is held in February, the hottest month in the Southern Hemisphere (daytime highs of 90+ degrees) when summer in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil is at its peak.  Californians who come from Brazil or have attended the biggest street carnival in the world (an estimated 2 million attend daily,) hold fond memories for the five day celebration which takes place before Easter. While their hearts may be in Rio, during San Diego’s Carnival of Love their bodies and minds will dance the Samba in the warmest beach city in California some 6,000+ miles northwest of the Southern American destination. San Diego’s event is equally anticipated and beloved by attendees who cherish the warm spirit of music and dance, exotic costumes and joy that Carnival brings. If you can’t make it to Brazil, the San Diego festival is an annual tradition that showcases the great musicians and talented performers, including some from Brazil!
