Left photo: Do you remember the Presidential Turkey that rode in Disneyland’s anniversary parade? I used to see him on display during trips to the Happiest Place on Earth and came to appreciate the decision to send recently pardoned turkeys to Leesburg, Virginia instead. This year Foster Farms of California (the 7th ranked state for heads of turkey raised,) was selected to provide two Nicholas breed turkeys for President Obama’s Turkey Pardon. Prized for their red heads and snow-white plumage, these Modesto-raised birds were hand-chosen for their looks, sociability and good manners. Two turkeys go to Washington, D.C. with one of the two serving as alternate to the “star” appearing in publicity shots.
