PASADENA, CALIF. — California-based Carl’s Jr. recently rolled out the only fast food All Natural burger. The grass-fed, free range beef patty with real cheese and no added hormones, steroids or antibiotics lessens the guilt for those who typically shun fast food. The food revolution is happening, one corporation and one product at a time. Keep that in mind during Cheeseburger Week in Pasadena. The place that grabs credit for the creation of the cheeseburger celebrates the invention’s great taste during Restaurant Week Jan. 11-16, 2015. You’ll find many variations on the cheeseburger throughout the city’s 40 participating restaurants.

California campaigns to eat healthy range from Real California Milk’s “Fuel Up to Play 60” (encouraging school kids to exercise 60 minute and consume low fat dairy products,) to CalFresh, the food stamp program which encourages recipients to buy fruits and vegetables. Though cheeseburgers generally get a bad rap in calorie counts, you can find veggie burgers, order meatless buns with everything but the beef, or eat cheeseburgers in moderation without tipping the scale. California got healthier in 2014 when it became the 6th lightest state with approx. 24% of the population obese. Colorado, Hawaii, District of Columbia, Massachusetts and Utah were the fittest, while Mississippi, West Virginia, Louisiana and Arkansas had almost double the number of obese citizens as the lightest state.
