Chilly, Chili Report

Temperatures are starting to drop with an expected low of freezing (32 degrees) tonight in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California. Baby, it’s chilly! It’s the perfect time for chili. Chili cook-offs and contests offer heart-warming, great tastes during October. Pack some chili when you head for leaf-peeping in the Sierras.

Chilly fall foliage update: According to leaf peeper John Poimoroo (californiafallcolor.com) there are still opportunities to see the trees. The fall foliage expert has been driving around and posting reports as of October 5, 2015:

  • Past Peak YOU MISSED IT! Carson Pass
    Near Peak (50-75%) GO NOW! Hope Valley. The best stand is found directly across Hwys 88 and 89 from Sorensen’s Resort.
  • Patchy (10-50%) Lake Tahoe
  • Just Starting (0-10%) US 50 All elevations
  • Just Starting (0-10%) Pleasant Valley Vineyards in Gold Country
  • Patchy (10-50%)  Plumas County
  • Patchy (10-50%)  Siskiyou County
