Chula Vista Lemon Festival
Chula Vista, Calif. used to be the Lemon Capital of the World. While lemons still hover among California’s Top 20 agriculture commodities you can thank Ventura County for being top producer of this citrus fruit (San Diego County where Chula Vista is located comes in 2nd.) Lemons are the only citrus fruit in California to have 12 month growing season, attributing to the state’s rank as top grower of lemons in the United States. While more than 25,000 people are expected to sip lemonade and celebrate lemons at the Chula Vista Lemon Festival on August 2, 2015 you will find lemonade at every county fair and most festivals where food is sold.
Chula Vista hosts one of four lemon festivals that we know about in the state. Internationally the best known lemon festival is the Menton Lemon Festival in France. That event includes scultpures, floats and statues in which citrus fruit — mainly lemons & oranges — is used to create artistic designs on view in public spaces and during a parade.
