It’s that time of year to celebrate Mexican history, culture and food with the annual Cinco de Mayo (5th of May) fiestas throughout California. Hispanics now tip the scale as the largest ethnic population in the state — but there are many, many countries and cultures south of the San Diego Border, so not all identify with Cinco de Mayo. The event celebrates Mexican victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla in on May 5, 1862.

Californians are eager to embrace a party with lively music, dancing, Mexican dishes and beverages ranging from fruit flavored water to icy Margaritas.

The biggest festivals takes place in Old Town San Diego and Olvera Steet Los Angeles but you’ll find events in Sacramento, Santa Ana, San Francisco, Richmond, San Leandro, Fresno, Corona, Delano, Windsor, Auburn and many other great destinations.  It’s time to go have fun this weekend and next.
