Civil War re-enactments are exciting, loud, fun, educational and sometimes solemn. If you’ve never attended a re-enactment, here are a few in California to check out.

When they roll the old canons onto the field for the Old Fort MacArthur Days this weekend (July 12-13, 2014,) expect loud booms during  mock battles. The noise can’t be avoided, so apologies have already gone out to neighbors. In addition to celebrating the Civil War, commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of Fort MacArthur (1914-2014) and the beginning of The Great War – World War 1, are featured at the the annual event.

Also experience mock battles at DUNCANS MILLS on July 19-20, 2014  $12 adult admission. Time: 9a-5p Saturday; 9a-3p Sunday. Location: Freezeout Rd., Duncans Mills, CA civilwardays.net
