Cowboys and Kilts

If you fancy yourself a kilt-wearing, Scotch whisky drinker or simply a Scot, head for the Queen Mary (Long Beach) Scots Festival this weekend Feb. 13 & 14, 2016, to enjoy parades, bands, Highland Games and Scotch tasting events. If you’d rather watch kids ride sheep than dogs round them up, listen to banjos instead of bagpipes, see hoop skirts on ladies instead of kilts on gents, and drink whiskey (with an “e”) then go to Kernville for Whiskey Flat Days. Though there is no whiskey served at the Old West event, Kernville Saloon has a bar stool waiting for you, as does the Big Blue Bear and The Hut.  It’s a tale of two cities 200 miles apart approaching the weekend with gusto — and everyone comes out a winner.
