Actress and singer Demi Lovato is Grand Marshal of the West Hollywood Pride Parade on Sunday, June 8, 2014, part of  the annual Pride Parade & Festival celebration June 6-8, 2014. The City of West Hollywood launches the festival with a community open house and live entertainment on June 4  from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. This free kick-off event officiated by Christopher Street West and West Hollywood Mayor John D’Amico takes place at West Hollywood Library, 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard and West Hollywood Park,  647 N. San Vicente Boulevard.

30% of West Hollywood’s population is gay, but the city is recognized more as the birthplace of rock  for bands launching careers in clubs such as Roxy, Troubador and Whiskey a Go-Go.  The Who and every band that made it in the 60s & 70s performed in WeHo night clubs. Some checked in and stuck around for months at what used to be the Hyatt Hotel, now called Andaz.  Keith Richards of  The Rolling Stones threw a TV out a window;  Jim Morrison of The Doors was evicted by management for hanging out a window by his fingertips, as he dangled over the pavement. At the Pride Festival bands are a big part of the entertainment with acts such as The Bangles performing in 2014.
