The Hollister (Motorcyle) Rally July 4-6, 2014, has a long and storied history dating back to 1947. Anything involving over 100,000 people on motorcycles is bound to include a story, as you can imagine!
Johnny’s Bar & Grill, a biker friendly gathering spot in Hollister, pays homage to “The Birthplace of the American Biker” with a mural depicting the Marlon Brando movie, “The Wild One”, based on the town.
Recently the bar & grill welcomed 84-year-young Virginia Dago (pictured,) an original Boozette who was a teenager at the famed ’47 cycle rally as a member of the Boozefighter motorcycle club. During that rally there apparently was a tiff between several bikers who got a little rowdy. The media called it a riot. This year the City of Hollister expects only goodwill, 60 bands, beer gardens and some of the finest motorcycles in the world to converge and park on San Benito Street, then stay for the 4th of July holiday — not to be missed!
A similar event this weekend for car culture lovers is the American Graffiti Festival in Modesto.
