Can you believe it? Sand season is marching in with Dana Point Festival of Whales held the first two weekends in March. The fun event includes an unbelievable roster of beach activities ranging from sand treasure hunts to sand castle contest. The wonderful volunteer planners of this event don’t hold back when thinking of things that are fun for all ages — they’ve crafted a jam-packed festival which includes a parade, art show, cars, music, water sports, beach sports, boat rides, films, live music and everything under the sun.

While people are digging the beach, in Palm Desert on March 5 the First Weekend Wildflower Festival includes a Giant Sand Sculpture created by the Sand Guys. These free festivals are just the beginning of what promises to be a summer you can really sink your toes into.
