While San Diego is reveling in Mardi Gras fever this weekend, Cloverdale in Northern California and Indio in Southern California are celebrating old fashioned festivals and fairs.
The North: Cloverdale Citrus Fair shown in the photos has been around 120 years–and some things never change. Agriculture is always an important component of the fair and though the wine competition (started in 1983) has only been around just under 30 years, some things don’t change much at Cloverdale’s fair which was founded in 1892. Pigs and cows and sheep and chickens are highlights for local 4-H students, school children and residents who live close to the land. You’ll see them at this annual event if you go this weekend. The carnival rides by Butler Amusements are a tradition every kid enjoys and looks forward to each year.
Where & when: Cloverdale, California is located approx. 86 miles north of San Francisco in Sonoma County. The Cloverdale Citrus Fair is held Feb. 17-20, 2012. Location: 1 Citrus Dr., Cloverdale, CA. Cost: $7, kids & seniors $5. cloverdalecitrusfair.org
