FATHER’S DAY FACTS

  • Established by a daughter honoring her father in 1910
  • Declared 3rd Sunday in June in 1966
  • 60 countries celebrate Father’s Day in June
  • There are over 70 million fathers in the U.S.
  • Necktie is most popular gift, though trends are changing
  • 90% of runaway kids are from fatherless homes
  • If paid, dad’s household tasks & contributions are worth $20,248 this year (mom’s are worth $60, 182)
  • Average spent Father’s Day $117; average spent on Mother’s Day $152
  • 150,000 U.S. dads are stay at home fathers
  • $2.3 billion spent in 2012 vs. $2.0 billion in 2011 for a special Father’s Day outing, such as golfing, eating out or heading to a sporting event
  • $1.7 billion spent on electronic gift in 2o12
  • $1.7 billion spent on apparel in 2012
  •  $1.7 billion on gift cards, sporting goods, music
