Fire and Ice: Hot One Minute, Freezing the Next in California Mountains

California has been blazing hot in recent weeks, and a fire that raged near Yosemite National Park seemed like it would never stop. But now the heaters have gone on at night, the fall foliage has blossomed and peaked, and mountain resorts are talking about an early ski season, perhaps. It’s like day & night or fire & ice.

Big Bear Lake, Calif. responds to early snowfall with earlier date for discount packages. Originally set to begin January 6, 2014,  an unusual early snowstorm in Big Bear has triggered Big Bear Lake Resort Association to change its start dates for its discounted Lift and Lodging package check-ins to begin December 9, 2013.  Midweek Lift and Lodging packages start as low as $69 per person per night, with double occupancy.  Noticing the early snow caused a spike in traffic to their website and ringing phones, the mountain resort recommends guests book now in order to reserve the best possible lodging choices for weekends.
