Fireworks: No Rain Cancels

You’ve heard the saying, “rain cancels,” at outdoor events such as festivals and markets. But this year the City of Cupertino cancelled its annual fireworks show due to lack of rain. As the State of California drought water restrictions increased recently, lawns and public parks are becoming parched, grass is turning brown and the fire danger has risen to levels never seen at previous 4th of July celebrations. In the case of Cupertino the annual festival which includes Fourth of July fireworks at Cupertino High School fields would require Fremont Union High School District to spray more than 100,000 gallons of water. The district responded with ‘no can do’. Unable to find any other location to launch the fireworks, Cupertino will still hold a flag ceremony and children’s parade at Memorial Park. Before heading to annual fireworks celebrations, confirm that they are taking place.

As of this posting with 4th of July a few days away, the majority of fireworks shows are a “go” and we’ve only found a few cancellations for 2015:

Bakersfield – River Walk
Cambria
Cupertino
Morro Bay
Paso Robles
Visalia
