KINGS BEACH: The 38th annual July 3, 2017 Fireworks & Beach Party will take place from 4-10pm outside the North Tahoe Event Center adjacent to the expansive beach at Kings Beach State Recreation Area. The Beach Party is a fundraiser for the Kings Beach fireworks and is open to all ages; admission is FREE. Enjoy food vendors, a beer/wine and mixed drink garden, free watermelon eating and sand castle building contests, periodical live music performances the San Diego Marine's Double Time Brass Band, a raffle to win a standup paddleboard, patriotic and glow items, and facepainting. A parade, music, dancing, crafts & activities of early San Diego recreate an American Independence Day as it was celebrated on the frontier. The event kicks off with a brass band followed by patriotic speeches and flag raising ceremony. One of the highlights of the day is the annual Fourth of July parade around the plaza. Following the parade the Old Town Historic Dance Society presents a dance where visitors are encouraged to kick up their heels and join in. Nineteenth century contests, such as cow chip throwing, cherry pit spitting, and the ever-messy egg toss will be presented throughout the day. The afternoon concludes with an all-American pie-eating contest. Guests of all ages are encouraged to join in all the festivities. Early San Diego life through living history activities, demonstrations, crafts, music, dance, and song offers a memorable tradition. Old Town San Diego State Historic Park, with the support of the Boosters of Old Town, the County of San Diego, Wells Fargo Bank, and Fiesta de Reyes is proud to offer these free activities for adults and children of all ages.
