Free Laguna Beach Trolley Rides

LAGUNA BEACH, CALIF. — That free trolley ride looks mighty good when you’re hoofing it around Laguna Beach. We’ve taken the trolley several times — once to get us around the Thursday Night Art Walk, and another time to get to the Sawdust Festival. Free trolley rides are the IN thing to help merchants, tourists and locals solve their worst nightmares–lack of parking. If visitors can’t park, they can’t stick around and spend $$Moolaaa. Here’s more info on Laguna Beach’s trolley (shown in the photo above.)

Last weekend when we attended the Queen Mary ScotsFest in Long Beach the parking lot was full so we ended parking well over a mile away. Like dummies, we walked to the festival over a bridge, around a hotel and through some traffic, arriving kind of tired. When we dreaded the walk back to our car, someone said there was a free bus ride called Passport that would take us back. Well, the bus was packed but we squeezed in for standing room only, then hung onto the hand rails for a free, fast, and air conditioned ride!

As California becomes more crowded (we add about half a million residents each year, on average,) these free bus rides are becoming more popular. Cities often fund them, sometimes getting grant money to help defray the expense.
