FIRE IN THE HOLE! The Pyro Chefs in Gourmet Alley put on a spectacular flame-up show while preparing garlic-laced calamari in huge iron skillets. Visitors relish garlic-laced dishes at the annual Gilroy Garlic Festival July 29-31, 2016. The three-day event includes a new cooking competition this year, “Gilroy Garli-Que BBQ Challenge,” which combines an officially sanctioned Kansas City Barbeque Society contest on Saturday with a Backyard BBQ Ribs Challenge for amateurs on Sunday.

Here’s a sampling of food served at last year’s event: Oysters on the Half Shell, White Rosemary Garlic Pizza, Roasted Garlic Chicken Quesadillas, Garlic Ice Cream, Gourmet Garlic Aioli Burger, Garlic Jelly, Garlic Onion Rings, Garlic Frog Legs, Fried Garlic, Garlic Chicken Wings, Garlic Chocolate, Garlic Kettlekorn and Garlic Crab Fries.

Tip: To ensure everyone in your group isn’t offended by the smells of garlic breath, it is required that you all must eat garlic fare at this event!
