This weekend in Plumas County there are gold festivals a mere hour’s drive from each other in two California “villes”, Greenville and Johnsville. Both events celebrate the gold discovery in 1851 at Eureka Peak, formerly known as Gold Mountain.
GREENVILLE GOLD DIGGER DAYS July 19-20, 2014 includes a parade, horseshoe competition, gold panning, hot rod car show, beard and leg contests, watermelon contest, raffles and more!
JOHNSVILLE GOLD DISCOVERY DAYS July 19-20, 2014 takes place at Plumas-Eureka State Park and throughout the town. Authentic volunteer actors wear clothes from the gold rush era and performed tasks, part of daily routines that included washing clothes by hand, making candles for light, spinning and weaving to make cloth for clothes, ice cream making, butter making, and activities that now seem novel and entertaining.
