You’ve probably heard of Gold Fever, but there’s a different type of fever going down in Quincy, Calif. which celebrates Groundhog Fever Day (groundhogfever.com) on Feb. 7, 2015 at the Plumas County Courthouse grounds. The fever has taken the area by storm ever since Punxsutawney Phil’s supposed cousin, “Chuck Wood” made his appearance at Quincy Courthouse steps several years at the ago on Groundhog Day. Chuck didn’t see his shadow when he popped out at the Groundhog Fever Festival, thus signifying an early onset of spring. James Wilson and Johnny Mansell (left photo) trace Chuck’s colorful history before the critter made his appearance. A festival created by the Quincy Revival Committee includes a chili cook-off, Wine & Beer Tasting, a date auction, Shadow Shuffle, Mustache Contest, Firetruck Lift Rides, Ice Sculpting and a Kids Zone. It’s all free!  Keep a lookout for other Groundhog events in California. At Pretend City in Irvine they Celebrate Groundhog Day of Feb. 2, 2015.
