From Grammy nominated Ceci Bastida (left photo), to dance band Quitapenas (middle), or rock band Triple Dogz (right), the music flowed throughout the streets of downtown Downey on Saturday in free concerts from some 70 bands, part of the 2nd annual Make Music Downey celebration. They hope to bring the event back each year on the 2nd Saturday in June and if they do, we highly recommend you go.  Free water, free chocolate milk, orange juice samples from Rockview Farms and promotional items were handed out to visitors who didn’t have to spend a penny to have fun.

With over a dozen music festivals this weekend in California, there is no shortage of great entertainment.  There are only a few  festivals that are free, however– Make Music Downey and Palo Alto World Music Day on June 15, 2014 have no admission charges.

If you get a chance to visit Downey, the city is home to an historic McDonald’s with its very own burger artifacts museum and Columbia Memorial Space Center hosting MARS DAY on July 19, 2014.
