Among the Memorial Day Ceremonies in California are the flags placed on every grave at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery (left photo) and an entire weekend festival in Manteca called The Memorial Weekend (thememorialweekend.org), which includes military events, the placing of 7,000 flags on graves, and the traveling Remembrance Wall of soldiers who have died since 9/11.

In nearly every city throughout the State of California there will be Memorial Ceremonies (this list is from a past year) but there will also be many large scale events. On board retired military ships now used as museums (USS Iowa, USS Hornet and USS Midway,) at national cemeteries, and former military base museums you may find special activities and events. Flags, music, speeches and parades are a few ways Americans celebrate this special day founded after the Civil War to remember those who died serving a greater cause.  Here are some Memorial Weekend events in 2014.
