Mules, the offspring of male donkeys and female horses, exhibit a higher cognitive intelligence than their parent species. Used extensively to transport cargo in wilderness areas of California’s Sierra Nevada mountains, over 15  mule pack stations in the Sierra Nevada serve tourists in wilderness exploration. If you are stubborn as a mule, you gotta’ go to the Memorial Weekend Mule Days festival in Bishop:

  • Over 700 mules with their trainers, riders and packers participate in a festival that’s part mule show, part test of skills, and part Wild West show in 14 exciting events.
  • “I Want To Be A Packer Program!” for kids features Stick Mule Rodeo, Fishing, Packing School and Clown School.
  • The beautiful, black Percheron Thunder six-hitch driven by Jason Goodman is back by popular demand, appearing in the Saturday morning parade and most Mule Days weekend shows.
  • Concert headliner, American Western singer/songwriter Brenn Hill, delivers songs & lyrics that resonate with fans of the Old West.
