Celebrate National Popcorn Day on January 19, 2014. Kaptain Kernel, “the King of Korn” appears each year at the Orange County Market Place Popcorn Festival in Costa Mesa. This year it takes place on January 18 & 19, 2014.

Do you like to munch on popcorn?  Among our favorites are kettle corn which is slightly sweetened and made fresh at farmer’s markets, or Trader Joe’s olive oil popcorn which is really light and uses less salt. Popcorn is extremely popular at stadiums where ball games are played, and at movie theaters. There are hundreds of flavors to enjoy but some of the best-selling include cheese, caramel, cinnamon, jalapeno and butter flavored.  Of course the ultimate, old-fashioned popcorn that many grew up on is Cracker Jack, original caramel coated  popcorn &  peanuts with a prize in every box! It is sweetened with corn syrup and molasses and now comes in bag instead of a box. The company is owned by Frito-Lay, though it originally was founded by a German immigrant known as Fritz, who named his popcorn and trademarked it in 1896 . The cover of each bag features a sailor named Jack with his dog, Bingo. Here are some facts about popcorn that you might like to munch on!
