Nuts By Choice

Why have farmers made almonds and nuts the crop of choice? Like grapes, nuts (and especially almonds) have become a cash cow in recent years. Now the 2nd most lucrative farm commodity under milk & dairy, nuts are popular internationally but have also increased in popularity locally as the public discovers their health benefits.
- On Feb. 28, 2016 get nutty at Capay Valley Almond Festival where Terry Sheets Band (pictured) rocks out at Capay’s Road Trip Bar & Grill. Five valley towns — Esparto, Capay, Brooks, Guinda and Rumsey — welcome guests to Yolo County for a one day celebration.
- From February 26 t0 28, 2015 Ripon Almond Blossom Festival gets even nuttier with a big parade and festival held annually in San Joaquin County. Miss Almond Blossom who gets crowned and officiates is as pretty as the spring flowers that blossom on the almond trees. The weekend includes a Fun Run, Diaper Derby, breakfasts, luncheons, dinners and a carnival at Mistlin Sports Park.
