If there’s one single day that you want to visit Davis, make it April 18, 2015, and be there, or be square on Picnic Day. UC Davis hosts the annual Picnic Day open to the public with over 200 events taking place throughout the campus.  In 1921 a cow named Molly walked from Berkeley to Davis to advertise Picnic Day. That’s how important this event was and continues to be!

From the famous cockroach races to milking a cow contest, the partying is zany and never boring. Doxie Races (Dachshunds), Battle of the Marching Bands, Chemistry Show, a Parade with a Grand Marshal, a Liquid Nitrogen Ice Cream Demo, bands, dancing, eating, singing, celebrating, and keeping it simple are the anecdotes to round out a school year of academics. UC Davis Picnic Day is pure escape. They have T-shirts, a website and everything an organized picnic deserves. See http://picnicday.ucdavis.edu/
