Do you remember when you saw your first big pine cone and marveled at nature’s splendor? At Calaveras Big Trees State Park Visitor Center among the many displays are pine cones from a variety of local trees found in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. But no place celebrates pine cones quite as large as Blue Jay, Calif. in the San Bernardino Mountains of Southern California. It is home to the annual Pine Cone Festival taking place on Oct.8, 2016.  Festival records for big pine cones:  Sugar pine cone: 23 3/4″ long; Coulter pine cone: 4lb 15 oz.
