The annual President’s Weekend Civil War Battle (Re-enactment) at Calico Ghost Town which begins on Feb. 13 and continues through Monday, Feb. 15 is a blast!  Calico Ghost Town operated by San Bernardino County Parks contains authentic 1800’s era buildings in what was once a silver mining operation with 500 mines. See costumed actors get their jollies by playing soldiers in the Civil War. There’s nearly always a “President Abraham Lincoln” answering kids’ questions and reciting the Gettysburg Address (Four score and seven years ago…).

There’s also a Civil War event in Huntington Beach’s Central Park Feb. 13 & 14 and many  re-enactments  throughout California this year. Reason to go:

1. Great picture-taking opportunities
2. Learning experience
3. Fun for all ages
4. Filled with sights and sounds
5. Shopping abounds — food, old-timey stuff, curiosities and collectibles
6. Entertainment with live music and more
