Contributor Berylee Baker recommended we mention quilt events that are going on in California. She took the left photo of a quilt show at a nursery where the quilts were hung on rope between big trees. The right picture shows the Guild of Quilters of Contra Costa County members taking their handmade quilts to hospitalized veterans. Talk about lifting spirits with their gifts! Quilting is one of the most popular types of club activities in the state and on any given day a group is meeting somewhere, participating in a quilt project.

  • San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles features an exhibition, Common Thread, through July 5, 2015,  sjquiltmuseum.org
  • San Diego’s Visions Art Museum of Contemporary Quilts and Textiles (visionsartmuseum.org) features fun exhibits in 2015 dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Balboa Park and an exhibit called “At the Beach”
  • Plumas County (plumascounty.org) and Lake County (lakecountyquilttrail.com) both have quilt trails you can drive along country roads to see.  Quilt displays are shown on barns and other areas usually visible from nearby roads.
  • Here is a list of quilt festivals and events in California
