Who Predicted California Snow and Rain?

Mammoth Mountain reports it now has the most snow of any ski resort in California and the country with a base depth of 130-245″ and it’s still growing. Is California out of the drought yet — and did anyone predict this wet winter?
Officially, California remains in a drought emergency until Gov. Brown issues a change to the formal declaration from several years ago. The numbers from the state’s winter snow and rain season won’t be finalized for a couple months. For now, more than 40% of California is no longer in drought, data shows.
What were the predictions for the season? In June through September 2016 news headlines read:
- La Nina is on the way — don’t expect California’s drought to ease.
- California Forecasters in Crapshoot Predicting Winter Weather.
- Weather forecasters don’t have a strong sense of what the season will hold for the state.
- Generally, a mild winter is once again expected.
