As Spring Break approaches in mid-March to April and the top destinations (beaches) are on vacationers’ radar, people are looking to book relaxing getaways in America’s favorite place — California! What many will miss is the fun going on right now.

Background: The top travelers in the state (more than 75%) are residents. It doesn’t matter that the majority of California’s population lives within 50 miles of the coast. Most of us can’t get enough of that Pacific Ocean love as we continue to book getaways along 1,000 miles of the Golden State’s beaches, just like we’ve done for decades.

Back to Beach Fun

DANA POINT: Festival of Whales (pictured). Two weekends March 3-11, 2018. If you took your inner-kid and unleashed it, that would best describe this multi-location event focused on all things beach. Tall ships, whales, parades, rubber ducks, kayaks and boating, art, classic cars and a grunion run …. the fun just goes on and on.

MENDOCINO: Mendocino Whale Festival. Multiple weeks and locations with events such as whale watching, gourmet dining, beer & wine sampling and all things great about the Mendo Coast!

RANCHO PALOS VERDES: Whale of Day Festival March 10. Whale watching and activities related to the sea make this family-friendly annual fest a must-see.

CAYUCOS: Sea Glass Festival March 9-11 is an annual event in which buyers can shop for jewelry and gems that are a results of the ocean and sand’s action, wearing down pieces of discarded glass, now precious in the eyes of beholders. Start the weekend with the Mermaid Ball.

CARLSBAD: The Flower Fields March-May. While visitors to this oceanside city come all year long for the beaches and Legoland, for more than 2 months guests can see the flower field attraction.
