See the Gigantic Tree at Jack London Square

The Bay Area is undoubtedly California’s most romantic big city region to celebrate Christmas. In Oakland, Jack London Square is lit up for the holidays officially on November 30 this year (2012) with the tree lighting ceremony not far from a statue of the famous author. If you miss the magic which includes a Christmas Parade, great shops, restaurants and delightful farmer’s market where vendors sell seasonal baked goods such as beautiful Christmas cookies, visit whenever you can. When you go, be sure to see Heinhold’s First and Last Chance Saloon in the Square. The ramshackle bar is a National Literary Landmark with character & charm that brings meaning to the holidays.
