Suisun City Waterfront Pleasure

Published on: October 09, 2012

If you live in the Sacramento area, you’ve heard of Suisun City, no doubt. The name, Suisun, derived from a native American language, is pronounced as se-soon. Located approx. 45 miles southwest of the State Capitol near Fairfield (home of Jelly Belly candies,) Suisun City has a slogan, “Visit for the watersports and events, and stay for the restaurants and entertainment.” They say it’s a San Francisco Bay Area gem with a touch of Cape Cod charm.

Suisun City  just wrapped up its Waterfront Festival last weekend but there’s lots to see and do when you happen to be passing on nearby I-80, and decide to stop and take a look. In addition to regularly scheduled train rides on the vintage Western Railway Museum Train which hosts a pumpkin festival on Oct. 13-28, 2012, there are several Halloween celebrations in Suisun City–Howloween Howl at Suisun City Wildlife Center, and a Halloween Parade down Main Street on October 31.

A really special time when everything shimmers in light on the Waterfront is December when the Lighted Boat Parade, Santa’s Arrival, a Community Bonfire and Tree Lighting Ceremony are held. The festivities take place on December 1 this year (2012). Be sure to add this gem to your list of places to see on your next trip beyond San Francisco Bay or Sacramento.
