California competes with Texas for bragging rights to call itself the Tamales Capital of America (not really!) The Golden State (California) has a much larger population of Hispanics and Latinos who adore tamales than the Lone Star State, and we have more consumers of all nationalities buying these tasty treats during the holidays when you’ll typically find that popular vendors sell out of their daily production. If you want to know just how popular tamales are, here are some Tamales Festivals in California:

  • The City of Hermosa Beach offers a bus ride on December 6, 2014 to the Coachella Valley for the Indio Tamales Festival
  • Gilroy (known for garlic) and Colton both launched  inaugural Tamales Festivals in 2014
  • East Palo Alto hosted a Tamales Festival last week
  • Oxnard’s getting ready to rock with one of its most popular events, Oxnard Tamales Festival on Dec. 6
  • Placentia is hosting the annual Tamale Festival & Las Posadas on Dec. 10, 2014
  • Riverside Tamales Festival is already set for April 18, 2015
